Game Review

A home game for a change, this week we were home to the Chequers B, The game start time came and went but we were missing the Hoare, apparently on the way to the match the heavily pregnant future Mrs Hoare felt a little peckish and made him stop off for some nibbles of coal, oysters and wolf nipple chips so poor old Andy missed the 4 a side. We won the 4 a side at a good pace, Cliff the quiff was first on in the singles and in the majestic and swaying manner to which we have become accustomed lately he blasted his way to a 2-0 win. Jabber was supposed to be on second but Mark from the Chequers had to drive back to Witney to get his ID because Chris the landlord had refused to serve him without it, Mark understood though and was fine about it and when he returned in his school tie and hockey kit he immediately got his Bacardi breezer :o) Stepping up for the second singles was yours truly, decent scoring and doubling saw a 2-0 win. Up third was the Hoare, lost the first one then played well to level at one all but in the third game Brett from the Chequers was like a man posessed, scoring trebles with every throw. All the Hoare could do was hang on in there and hope for a mistake, it came in the form of double two which try as he might the Chequers man just could not hit and Andy hit his double first dart for a 2-1 steal. Finally on last in the singles was Jabber against the now alcohol fuelled Chequers man, a game of cat and mouse which went to 1-1 and into a decider, Jabber started well and built up a big lead but alas his favourite double 1 let him down and the Chequers man nicked it. Reasons for Jabbers loss? Nothing to do with the dirty weekend in Scotland I am sure, rumours were abound that him and his squeeze Lottie had eloped to Gretna Green to get married but these proved to be unfounded as they returned unmarried but were engaged so congratulations to Jabber and Lottie, mind you I had my suspicions that this was going to happen because last week we caught Jabber picking his ring. Onto the pairs and the return of the Greek, a good performance from Cliff and the Greek ensured a 2-1 victory for the cods pairing. Second pair were me and the marsupial man Chris Kibbey, started a little ropey but got a 2-1 victory in the end. I won the captains leg against Colin from the Chequers. A 6-1 win for the CODS and an excellent points haul. The Chequers did not stay for the food though, a little surreal really as we all waited for them to go up first but they just hung about and then left without touching it!
